OverviewTrail Patrol in conjunction with Emergency Response Training LLC, is offering a CPR/First Aid class. This class provides American Heart Association CPR/AED and First Aid. In addition, students will learn American Safety and Health Institute Basic Wilderness First Aid. Students are provided with textbooks and certification cards good for two years.
Paramedics with extensive experience in both emergency medicine and the outdoor environment will be your instructors. Heavy emphasis will be placed on “hands-on” time.
• How to assess Airway, Breathing, & Circulation
• How to provide rescue breathing
• How to perform chest compressions properly
• How to relieve an obstructed airway
• How to operate an AED (automatic external defibrillator)
• How to identify medical emergencies & how to treat them
• How to control bleeding
• How to identify shock
• How to administer an epi-pen
Day Two you will learn: • How to do a patient assessment
• What you need in your first aid kit
• How to access help in the wilderness
• How to control bleeding & splint with what you carry in your pack
Both days students will have ample time to practice the skills that they learn.
Pre-registration is required. The class is offered four times a year. The two-day class costs $120 for Trail Patrol Members and $130 for everyone else. The cost of the class includes two textbooks, certification cards, and instruction materials.
The current refund policy for the CPR/Basic Wilderness First Aid class is: "Includes a $50.00 non-refundable registration fee. If the student cancels after 5 p.m. the Friday one week before the class, the student will not receive a refund, thereby forfeiting the entire class fee. This includes "no-shows" and students that do not participate in the entire class. If the instructors cancel the class for any reason, the student will receive a full refund."
